Dates, prunes, saltbush and blackberry. It’s not the freshest or most defined of styles, but both intensity and depth are excellent, tannin is al dente, and the linger of flavour through the finish is not to be sneezed at. Indeed all up, it’s most impressive.

If you’re looking for detail, freshness, delicacy or finesse; look away. But for power, length, curls of tannin and straight-out impact, this puts some serious runs on the board. It tastes of prunes, dates, saltbush and liquorice, its more earthen/spicy notes playing third fiddle. It also shows clear signs of alcohol warmth. But it has to be said that the finish of this wine, complete with a cappuccino-like sprinkling of chocolate, is impressively firm and rich.

Spectacular colour saturation displaying a thick, black as night core with a very deep dark red black hue. Heady ripe blackberry and liquorice aromas fill the nostrils with a strong overlay of toasty vanillin oak. Some ensuing fennel infusions and spice are also present. Undeniably rich and very concentrated the palate boasts a viscous textural feel and luscious dark plum, ripe blackberry and liquorice flavours over some toasty vanillin oak and spicy dried clove infusions which tend to linger a bit too long on the finish. Outstanding power with velvet smooth tannins and long aftertaste of ripe dark plums, blackberries, liquorice, toasty vanillin oak, dried meats and spice.
