The 2017 Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal is produced with fruit from a very balanced plot with some 50 centimeters of soil before reaching the stones and limestone. This half-hectare plot had very low yields, so they had to harvest it very early. The plants here are very balanced, and the wine produced has a marked herbal sensation, always combined with the stoniness. There is less difference between the 2017 and 2018 here than in the other Finca Piedra Infinitawines. This is precise, fresh and harmonious, with very fine chalky tannins and a combination of fruit, spice and minerality that make it really attractive. 1,500 bottles were filled in August 2018. Gravascal and Supercal—two wines from blocks with very particular soils—represent the pinnacle of the research woke that Zuccardi has been doing with Altamira terroir, the 38 hectares surrounding the Piedra Infinita winery. In the case of Gravascal, as its name implies, it’s a wine from soil with abundant gravel and coated in chalk—the typical Altamira soil and common in the appellation’s best wines. This year, Gravascal is firm and austere, offering that Altamira severity at its finest. It’s fruity, yes, but mineral above all, with a delicious saline backdrop and tannins as hard as steel.

Dark ruby, intense core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. A multi-faceted nose, candied violets, hints of liquorice, tar and blackberry confit with a mineral touch. Very complex with ripe berries, black cherries, a hint of truffle, subtle and well integrated acidity and full-bodied tannins. A cool but definite style.
