I love its complexity on the nose, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a remarkable sense of refinement and elegance, fine yet building tannins, and an incredible finish. The single-varietal 2021 Kaannos Cabernet Sauvignon (Kaannos means translation in Finnish) is from Vine Hill Ranch, new for this year and all sourced from Block 4. Opaque purple-black in color, it prances out with flamboyant notes of blackcurrant jelly, black raspberries, and wild blueberries leading to fragrant suggestions of licorice, red roses, and black truffles. The full-bodied palate is packed with crunchy black and blue fruit layers supported by a solid backbone of firm, exquisitely ripe tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and earthy. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Käännös Vine Hill Ranch, 100% Clone 4, is rich, expansive and broad. Dark cherry, mocha, spice, leather and tobacco all wrap around the palate in a positively stunning Cabernet. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of earthy, floral and savory notes that add character. This fruit once went to one of the most pedigreed wineries in Napa Valley.
