A little darker in purple, with a wilder touch to the nose. Some whole bunches. A dark and brambly fruit, but lifted. A miniature torrefaction. Overall, though, this is very fresh. Some white pepper notes. The fruit is a little redder at the back than the outset. Supple, subtle and persistent., splendidly harmonious and with a fine future. Big smile on the face here. Magisterial. Drink from 2033.

More muscular and meaty than the Échezeaux. Darker fruits, sweet cherry depth. Redolent and yet controlled in fruit. Fleshy cherries and plums, a slight hint of integrated toast and nutmeg from oak. Despite the power the sensation is ethereal and lifted. Very fine. Anticipated maturity 2024-2040

The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a lifted, perfumed, slightly exotic bouquet with orange blossom filtering through the red fruit. Lovely transparency here, though I would not describe it as “complex”. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, structured and lightly spiced, a dash of black pepper and sage. Just a little dryness towards the baked red cherry and raspberry coulis-tinged finish, otherwise this is a seriously fine, quite aristocratic Richebourg. Drink 2025-2050
