The Gros parcel of Echezeaux is one of the finest in the appellation, planted with 90-year-old vines. A truly outstanding wine in 2018 which almost outshone the Richebourg on the day of tasting! The only wine to be whole bunch pressed in the cellar (20%), this is a wonderfully seductive style with pure alpine fruits. Poised, refined and elegant, this is beautifully in balance. Fabulous.

Fine, elegant but ripe nose. Excellent purity for the vintage. Fine, smooth and sweet on the palate. Ethereal vibrancy and elegance. Chalky richness builds on the palate and shows the potential. Lifted, floral finish.

The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a broody bouquet with dark berry fruit laced with black tea and touches of leather. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, almost “chunky” tannins. This is not a graceful Echézeaux but there is plenty of substance with a judicious touch of spice on the finish. Fine, but give it time.

Admirably discreet wood frames the fresh and notably spicy liqueur-like red berry fruit, earth and discreet floral aromas. The delicious, intense and seductively textured medium weight plus flavors possess more size and weight if a bit less refinement before concluding in a balanced and strikingly long finale that offers just a bit more depth.
