Grenache clearly dominates the site, with red fruit, good definition and precision. Even though the Single Vineyard is very large, this wine is super clean. Strawberry and raspberry – I’m reminded of Cabernet Franc from the Loire. Then behind that comes licorice, mint and eucalyptus. Fragrant with rose petals, orange zest and a bit of passion fruit. Very chic, very sweet, very charming. Mouth is extremely flavorful and sooo juicy! Sweet red cherry with raspberry and strawberry, plus lots of orange and some pencil underneath. Garrigue spice is noticeable. The whole thing is more reminiscent of chalk and limestone than the shale on which the wine grows. Great finesse and ultra-fine tannins. Cool Climate! Producing only 20,000 bottles from 16 acres means an ultra-low yield per vine. You can tell that from this wine. It has an insane tension and concentration. But a concentration of a lot of red fruit and delicacy. Not a blockbuster at all, but always remaining playful, delicious and juicy. A delicacy! Impressive, very defined and precise. A one-of-a-kind wine that at the same time has what it takes to be Everybody’s Darling in its juicy red fruit. Very chic!

The more backward of the 2021s was the 2021 Finca Dofí, which was very primary and smelled almost like the fermentation vessels, and it took time in the glass to open up. The blend is higher in Garnacha, and they couldn’t use the Picapoll as it didn’t work well that cool year, so it’s 90% Garnacha, 9% Cariñena and 1% white grapes. It achieved 14.5% alcohol but kept better freshness than in 2020, a constant in the 2021 wines. Very promising.

Scented, delineated nose but has depth, too. It effuses wet-stone minerality that gives a thin overlay to the red and blue berries. Some spices, briar and hibiscus, too. Juicy and medium- to full-bodied on the palate, which is a little more vertical and powerful than many of Palacios’ reds, highlighted by real tension and tautness here. Goes on and on. Drink or hold.
