The vineyard was planted in 1902. The wine is planted entirely on limestone with pure sand, which guarantees the greatest finesse. Exactly the same subsoil as at Rayas in Chateauneuf on the Le Claux site. This vineyard is also 100 percent planted with Grenache. 270 meters high, northwest exposure. That means it is the cooler vineyard. This site is often the primus inter pares for the judges. I myself often prefer Le Claux because of its greater finesse and freshness. The smallest site is Le Poste. But Hominis Fides has a cult status somewhere, for whatever reason. Hominis Fides expresses itself from the glass, power, juice, dark, spicy, powerful. But 2022 comes with this inexplicable elegance, this unexpected finesse from this very hot year. Highly concentrated blackberry, blueberry, cassis, violets and tulips, everything massively concentrated and rich. Certainly the most intense of the three with this high aromatic content. Great elegance and perfect balance. Rich mulberry underneath, sweet blueberry, black cherry, lots of punch, lots of bacon and fat. Incredibly sweet, which comes predominantly from the liquorice, dense, gripping, almost overwhelming in its intensity and the drama of its appearance.

The 2022 Gigondas Hominis Fides is a step up, with a touch more density and richness. It’s full-bodied, has a layered, concentrated mouthfeel, plenty of ripe, polished tannins, and a solid core of darker fruits, iron, ground pepper, and some garrigue nuances. A serious, age-worthy Gigondas, it’s going to benefit from bottle age.
96 points James Suckling
A dense, well-composed and muscular Gigondas. The nose expresses notes of sweet cherries, dried flowers, grilled herbs, thyme and orange peel. Full-bodied with fine tannins. It’s ample and so precise, with a silky texture at the center. Driven and lively, with a restrained power throughout. Spicy and vivid, with a long finish.
Good depth of colour. The oak is really quite noticeable here, but it works, helping to round out the tannins and give some sweetness to the fruit. Really quite robustly tannic, this will take time to come round. The acidity is piercing too. A highly structured Gigondas with more depth than most this year – fully ripe in flavour, which isn’t always the way among 2022 Gigondas.
