From the Puligny side of the appellation. Clear beautiful yellow colour. The nose is discreet but very classy, then this huge wealth of fruit expands across the palate. We can wait for the nose. This is beautifully poised, a little wood, a slight youthful bitterness, but both add to the grip. Long and fine. Drink from 2028-2035.

Jadot buys these grapes, and Frédéric Barnier said they finished the pruning the week before the devasting frosts dipping as low as – 8°C… in tee-shirts. There is a lovely generosity to this wine in its sensuous, glossy and dense palate enrobed by finely delineated acidity. The lingering, toasted spice finish meshes seamlessly with sweetly ripe orchards fruits.

The 2021 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru offers fine terroir expression, wet limestone and flint; it’s quite precise with neatly integrated oak. The palate is harmonious on the entry with a subtle peachy back note. The acidity is well judged, maybe not as tensile on the finish as other Bâtard-Montrachets, yet is persistent in the mouth. A seductive wine overall.
Although this wine is made from purchased grapes, it is given the same care and attention as the domaine parcels. The texture on the palate is dense and creamy—a classic Bâtard feel—yet it is enlivened in 2021 by the vintage’s acidity; the ripe peach and pear fruit aromas are liberally accented with butter, spice, and smoke. I recommend you give this a few years to open and drink it over the next decade.
