The 2016 Pangaea is a blend of 39% Merlot (Right Bank Bordeaux), 33% Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) , 19% Malbec (Valle de Uco, Argentina), 6% Cabernet Franc (Helderberg, South Africa), and 2% Petit Verdot (Dehesa del Carrizal Vino de Pago, Spain). It is deep garnet in color with a touch of purple. After a swirl or two, notes of blueberry pie, redcurrant jelly, and warm cassis erupt from the glass, followed by suggestions of licorice, menthol, tapenade, and Indian spice plus a waft of cigar box. The full-bodied palate delivers beautiful tension, with a firm line of ripe, grainy tannins to support the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing very straight-laced and classic. Drink 2024-2045

In 2012, Travis had the idea to create Pangaea Estates, a wine that could “bring the world together.” He approached Michel Rolland, arguably the world’s most renowned consulting winemaker and master of the art of blending. After a year of analyzing terroirs around the globe and various other considerations, Michel and Travis agreed to join forces in Pangaea Estates. The first vintage was declared in 2015.
Pangaea was a super continent that existed from about 300 million years ago until about 200 million years ago, in late Paleozoic Era until the very late Triassic Era. It was made up of the continent we now know as North America was contiguous with Africa, South America, and Europe.
Pangaea is a blend of the five famous Bordeaux varieties from five renowned wine regions in the world, each bringing its own strength and character to the blend.
